We create a safe and supportive environment

All our learners feel safe and secure at Green Labyrinth. Our Safeguarding Policy is very clear and all staff are regularly trained and updated from a safeguarding perspective.

Welcome weeks

We make sure that our learners are made to feel welcome as soon as they make contact with us. The start of the programme in September is very much focussed around helping our learners to settle into the college, finding out about the college and study programme and developing trusting relationships with the staff and the other learners who study here.

Individualised learning

Each learner has an individualised programme of study which is dependent on their starting point, prior attainment, circumstances, needs, initial assessment and career aspirations.

High quality support

Our learners may come to us with EHCPs, a variety of educational needs and/or social, emotional and mental health needs. All our staff are fully committed to supporting all of our learners to achieve and progress.

High quality teaching and learning

Our teachers are all extremely experienced, innovative and enthusiastic. They support all of our learners to achieve their qualifications and help them progress to their next steps. The qualifications delivered support our learners to develop fundamental personal skills which then support them to develop the progression and employability skills that they need for their next steps.

Small group sizes

We recognise that many of our learners struggle in larger, busier environments and therefore keep our group sizes to around a maximum of 10-12 learners

Meaningful and supported work experience

Learners undertake work experience that is linked to their career aspirations ONCE THEY ARE READY TO DO SO. Learners are supported to find work experience and are supported whilst they are at their placement. For learners who are not yet ready for work experience, work-related activities are undertaken until they are ready for external work placements. Work experience and work-related activities support the develop of key employability skills to help learners progress to employment, and maintain employment, when they are ready to do so.

Relationship and Behaviour Approach

At Green Labyrinth, it is understood that all behaviour is a means of communication and poor behaviour is understood to result from an unmet need or as an adapted, defensive, stress response. Our philosophy that learners learn best within a positive environment where trusting relationships have been developed informs our approach to managing and then to adapting behaviour. Our expectations underline our philosophy that positive, trusting relationships enable learning. Please refer to the Relationship and Behaviour Approach document for further information.

Opportunity to take part in Duke of Edinburgh Awards

All learners are given the opportunity to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Awards in order to develop skills that are useful for everyday life and progression to next steps.
